MY REVIEW

When I first signed up for the tour, I chose to post just an excerpt. But then I realized that I should not let the chance pass by to read a book with a plot that interests me a lot. I told myself, "Damn it, Algel! It's a werewolf-vampire kind of romance! You should read it!" And the decision I made didn't make me regret. Fall of Darkness is such a great story to read.

So, what's up with the werewolf-vampire romance?

As far as I know, it's a forbidden kind of love. Werewolves and vampires race were mortal enemies. They're like heaven and hell. Sunshine and rain. Ice and fire. Yin and yang.

Dominic is assigned to kill Katerina, also known as Kate. She's a vampire and destined to end the darkness and race of Dominic's entire werewolf race. But Kate know nothing about this since she's not yet transformed. Dominic could've killed her easily, but ended up falling for her.

This is such a good book. The character build up, the romance, the suspense, the author did a great job. I love Dominic. I fell for him easily. The fact that he's true to his feelings for Kate, he turned his back from his family for her. He's willing to fight for her. There's just a part where I hated Kate. I didn't understand her real intentions when she learned the truth from Dominic, and met her tutore, Alexander. It seemed like she love them both and sworn eternity with the two of them. But later on, that hatred for her changed, but not my hatred for Alex. I used to love the name Alex, but this time, I loathe him. So. Much.

I'm looking forward to what happens next to Dominic and Kate's forbidden love story. This book is excellent. Addictive. You will fall inlove with Dominic every step of the way.

MY REVIEW

Another vampire story.

Which means another vampire boyfriend. (smirks)

Bohemian started with Ingrid, a policewoman, stealing some sort of evidence she needed for a case she's working on from a suspect. Yeah, you read that right -- a policewoman stealing. She was so close to getting caught, luckily, she's friends with a vampire named Orpheus, and he helped her out.

She was marked as a Gothica, or a vampire's servant who agreed to be turned after five years. And now, a girl had gone missing and she found out that the girl, named Beatrice was also marked. Like any other mortal girls associated with vampires, Ingrid is a fearless girl. Fearless, as in she's not afraid to lure into a place full of vampires, even though she knew they can drain her blood out any minute she step a foot at their territory. Well, I guess she's not afraid since Orpheus marked her as his own Gothica to protect her.

Ingrid is inloved with a vampire named Jadeon, but they broke up. And she's still inlove with him. I guess it happened within the first three books (which I need to read badly). She keeps it to herself but she didn't give up in finding Jadeon. Jadeon hid himself from Ingrid but later on showed up to her because of a punishment. Punishment, huh.
This melancholy wasn't getting me anywhere. It was time to ignore this aching for Jadeon that devoured my insides. This misery of heartbreak for which there was only one cure; throw myself into work.
My favorite character is Orpheus. I thought he's the one for Ingrid since they were always together during the first scenes in the book. Plus, Ingrid is Orpheus' gothica. I kinda felt sad when it was still Jadeon that Ingrid chose. And also thankful. I can have Orpheus. The sexy, mysterious but sarcastic vampire. Lol.

After all, this in not the kind of vampire book with lots of neck biting and blood sucking in it. It's more of finding this missing vamp girl named Beatrice, mysteries, secrets, and ways to keep the vampire society hidden from this world.

I liked this book but I have a lot of questions and I'm looking forward to know more about their past lives.

Broken Symmetry
by Dan Rix
Genre: Young Adult Sci-Fi
Format Acquired: e-Book
Published July 28th 2013 by Burning Ember Press
Purchase Link: Amazon

Eleven months after the father of sixteen-year-old Blaire Adams vanished without a trace, he's found wandering outside The Scripps Research Institute vomiting blood and speaking gibberish, his sole possession a worn leather diary filled with an unrecognizable language. He has a message for her.
As he dies in her arms, he claims he never vanished. She vanished.
In a nearby military quarantine zone, scientists are being called in from around the world to sequence a previously unknown strain of DNA. Scientists…and soldiers.
When her father’s autopsy reveals a rare chromosomal disorder—a disorder, it turns out, she inherited—Blaire begins to suspect her father’s last words weren’t induced by amnesia. Like her dad, she has an additional set of instructions in her genes—instructions for what, doctors can’t say. Only one thing is certain: it’s what killed him…and it will kill her too.
But now she’s haunted by prophetic nightmares of the Yellowjacket—a young murderer, eyes the black of charcoal, who lures his victims to suicide without ever paying them a visit. The only clue she has to his handiwork is a lingering feeling of déjà vu. That, and the nagging suspicion that all she knows is a mirage. She is certain of two things—though it may mean confiding in the wrong side of good and evil, he has the answers she needs.
And he is recruiting her.

MY REVIEW

I have to admit I'm not really good at Physics and it took me quite a hard time to understand the idea of the story. There are times when I have to reread some parts to fully understand them.

This is a mix of mystery, thriller and suspense. When I read about Blaire's dad's diary, written in backwards handwriting, I suddenly remembered myself. Lol. I can write backwards, too. Actually, I do have a notebook where everything was written backwards and you have to use a mirror to be able to read what's written.

Her dad knows how to write backwards, just like me. Well, that's what I thought at first. Until I learned the whole thing about breaking symmetry and that when they enter a mirror, everything around them were just reflections; flipped, backwards.

Broken Symmetry is a unique story. When I understood the whole concept, I enjoyed imagining the scenes. I picture out everything that's written and it was a fun ride to break the symmetry with Blaire and Damian. This book took me to different worlds, and there are times when I felt lost between the real world and the world inside the mirror - the reflection. To be honest, it took me a whole week to read this since I wanted to fully understand it. When  I reached the other half, my mind was mind blown.
"There's an explanation for everything, Blaire. Remember, a mystery is only a mystery until we figure out the answer. . .and we always figure out the answer."
This is what I'm looking for in a sci-fi book, it's a combination of Physics and Chemistry (two subjects I'm really not good at) but the author made a way for readers like me to understand. There may be scientific terms and explanations but later on there are also explanations that were easier to comprehend. There are parts of the story that confused me with time travel, but I also knew that this is a whole of a different concept.

This may be a little bit crazy book, that will definitely leave you crazy once you read it, but trust me. This is a crazy in a good way book. You will love it once you figure out everything.

I love the team up of Blaire and Damian. Though it also hurts me everytime Damian breaks the symmetry. I don't want him to die. I kept on praying that he won't die as a go on with the book. Blaire is kinda reckless and made rash decisions, so I believe she always needed Damian with her.
I pulled away from Damian and had to squint my eyes. "What was that for?" I said, still dazed by his kiss. "So when I die, you know how I really feel," he said.
And that ending? Mindblowing. Awesome. Unpredictable.

Broken Symmetry, is an overall amazing book. This is a fantastic Science-fiction novel and I would totally recommend it to all sci-fi lovers out there. I felt what the characters felt. I saw what they saw. This book totally brought me in it's world.

MY REVIEW

(Thanks for the author for sending me an e-copy of the book! This in no way affected my review.)

Vampires.

I love vampires.

I can never explain how much I love reading vampire books.

A Shade of Vampire is a fast-read vampire book. It is a straight to point story. It may be short, but it didn't matter because everything was written well.

Sofia Claremont celebrated her birthday being kidnapped by a stranger into a strange and unknown island. She woke up inside a dark room, and she found out she was held captive by blood-sucking creatures in an island, called The Shade, where the sun was forbidden to shine. She's one of the girls to join the island's vampire prince, Derek Novak, harem.

Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince, is not yet ready to wake up from his deep sleep but he has no other choice. That's when he met the girls in his harem, and one of them caught his attention -- Sofia. There was something about Sofia that draw his attention to her.

Though this book is short, I ship Derek and Sofia already. I love Derek! He was so protective of Sofia, and he keeps her a constant reminder of the other side of him he once had -- his humanity.

But his brother, Lucas claims that Sofia is his since he was the one who found her and brought her to the Shade. I don't exactly know what Lucas wanted about her, but I don't like it. I don't know if there's something about Sofia's blood, or he's also romantically attracted to her.

I am not disappointed reading this book. I am looking forward to reading the next books and find out what will happen next to Sofia and Derek's story, and the dispute between Derek and Lucas.

EXCERPT

I turn to face him; he puts his other arm around me. We are in the same position as before when the last kiss attempt failed. My arms are tight around his neck, his arms around my waist. I look down. He lifts up my chin so I’m lost in his gaze. His hand goes back to my waist. He swallows; I think he’s as nervous as I am. He tilts his head and leans in … I back away quickly.

“What’s wrong?” he asks, looking hurt.

“Oh, no, it’s not you. I think … I might have garlic breath.”

He laughs and pulls me back to him. “So do I.” He pulls me in tighter, and before I know what’s happening, his lips are on mine. I give in and surrender to him completely.

This feels like one of my fantasies, only way, way better. He holds me tight as one hand moves from my waist to caress my cheek, kissing me softly but sensually. My hands move to the back of his head, and I grab a lock of hair in each hand. He moves our bodies so that I’m against the railing at the edge of the deck. He moves his hand from my waist to hold the rail as I still grasp his hair. The kissing becomes feverishly passionate; his tongue against mine as they intertwine with each other. Our breathing becomes faster and erratic. Our kissing becomes more intimate. We are in perfect sync with each other. I pull him closer to me, our whole bodies touching. My heart is pounding fast and hard. His hand moves from my face to the back of my head, pulling me tight. He moves my hair from the side of my neck, breaks our kiss and kisses my neck slowly and seductively. I sigh and breathe in a stuttering motion. I open my eyes to see the waitress standing there, gawking at us. I stiffen as I see her. He pulls back and looks at me. With my eyes, I gesture toward the waitress. He turns, looks, and lets out a little huff. He leans in towards me.

“Now that’s a first kiss,” he whispers as he grabs my hand and leads me over to the table. I can’t help but smile.
