Shannon Kelly’s life has been anything but typical.

However horrible they have been, it’s these changes that have given her a family and career…now possibly love.
The last thirteen years she has been supported and loved by her protector, her entertainer, and her comforter, but never a lover.

When Dylan Kellerman enters Shannon’s life he changes its course in more ways than one.
He gives her hope and promise of a future she was convinced wasn’t attainable.

Just as she begins to believe she has finally turned her life into something she can build a future on…blackness takes over.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Norma Jeanne Karlsson

Blackness Takes Over is Norma Jeanne’s debut novel. What began as an homage to the home town of a homesick Midwestern girl, unfolded a story of love, danger, humor, and trust. She’s currently working on her untitled sophomore effort. We can’t wait to see what thrilling saga she leads us through next!

Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Norma Jeanne recently found herself relocating to the United Kingdom. Now living in Belfast, she took hold of the opportunity to kick the 9-5 job for a chance to become an author. The best part: working from her home office, she gets to spend more time with her cast of crazy characters (written and real).

In her free time Norma Jeanne is a voracious reader and consumes books as readily as meals. She is a people watcher by nature and uses her experiences in life, observed or otherwise, to build the worlds and characters that thrive in her books. A believer in the strength of the human spirit, Norma Jeanne writes the stories of people that persevere when all appears to be lost.

Review: ASUNDER by Jodi Meadows

Asunder
by Jodi Meadows
Series: Newsoul #2
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy
Format Acquired: Paperback
Source: Fully Booked
Published January 29th 2013 by Katherine Tegen Books
Purchase: Amazon / Kobo Barnes and Noble / The Book Depository

DARKSOULS
Ana has always been the only one. Asunder. Apart. But after Templedark, when many residents of Heart were lost forever, some hold Ana responsible for the darksouls–and the newsouls who may be born in their place.

SHADOWS
Many are afraid of Ana’s presence, a constant reminder of unstoppable changes and the unknown. When sylph begin behaving differently toward her and people turn violent, Ana must learn to stand up not only for herself but for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

LOVE
Ana was told that nosouls can’t love. But newsouls? More than anything, she wants to live and love as an equal among the citizens of Heart, but even when Sam professes his deepest feelings, it seems impossible to overcome a lifetime of rejection.
MY REVIEW

Holy mother of books! I enjoyed reading Incarnate but Asunder took my breath away! Way back to Incarnate, we met our heroin, Ana and her hero, Sam. We followed them throughout their journey, music lessons, and how Ana made new friends despite of being the only Newsoul. She later on discovered about her mysterious birth, a secret that Menehem, her father did before she was born. During the Templedark that Menehem created, Ana discovered that more Newsouls will be born soon, replacing the darksouls, or those who died during Templedark.

In Asunder, the relationship of Ana and Sam grew stronger and deeper. You will definitely savour every moment of the two of them. Even there are some confusions for Ana about the way she really feels, Dossam patiently waited for her to understand what she truly feels about him, and what their relationship is for her.

“It was our relationship, so what other people thought shouldn't matter.”
Jodi Meadows once again captivated me in her writing. Ana never looked pathetic in any part of the book. She became braver than she was before. She wanted to prove that she can do what the oldsouls can do, and that she will do whatever she can to protect the newsouls and not give them the same childhood she suffered under her birth mother, Li. This will be made possible with the help of Sam and their friends who believes in her and trusted her with all their heart. There were times when she felt like giving up but her friends gave her hope. Asunder also gave answers to the questions that Incarnate left behind. Also, a lot more about Heart was explained, about the reincarnation, the sylph, the temple, and Janan.

“Just accept it, Ana. You can't stop your friends from loving you. You can't stop Sam from feeling the way he does. You know I admire that you question things, but this - this doesn't have to be one of them.”
And Dossam. Sam. Reading his name is like listening to music. Spelling out his name is like reading notes from a musical composition. Asunder made me fall inlove with him even more. Every girl who feels alone need a guy like Sam. Ana is very lucky to have Sam by her side. Sam supports her in every way he can to make her strong and for her to believe in herself and what she can do. Sam deserves to be in a Swoon Worthy Saturday post!

Asunder really took my breath away. There is so much more to discover in Range and in Heart. I just feel sad one of my favorite characters need to leave physically, but I understand why he needed to go. Yes, he. Anyway, the cover justified the story. Even though I liked the cover of Incarnate more, this cover still gave me covergasm! I received an ARC of the next and last book in the series, Infinite and the cover is just so awesome and lovely! I can't wait to read it. I just hope that the title means infinite love between Ana and Dossam. :)

MY RATING
ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jodi Meadows

Like many writers, I’ve always wanted to do this professionally. You know, after I decided against being an astronaut.

Unlike many writers, I didn’t skip straight from picture books to adult novels. I have fond memories of going to Bookstop every month for the latest Baby-Sitters Club (which I kept reading, even after I realized they were never going to let the paranormal elements be real), and even fonder memories of hanging out in my middle school library. The librarians probably knew exactly what they were doing when they suggested book after book and discussed them with me at length. I, of course, had no clue they were turning me into a book addict, but it worked out for the best. Once I found the books where magic and other fantastic elements were real, I was hooked.

When I was twenty, I met a boy, moved 1,500 miles, and married him all within six months. I now realize that was crazy and dangerous, but it seemed natural at the time and, again, worked out for the best. Not only did we stay madly in love, he worked full time at a hard job so I could stay home to write books and, hopefully, one day get published.

The other crazy thing we did was fall in love with ferrets. They have their own bedroom.

My hobbies, aside from spending all my money on books and Kippy/ferret treats, revolve around yarn. I love crocheting, knitting, and spinning. In addition to several handspindles, I share my living room with a spinning wheel named Bob.

EXCERPT

"The scroll chose you. For whatever reason, she's your reap."

"Well, that sucks." Leila chewed her bottom lip. "If I don't do it?"

Edon hesitated before he said, "Her soul will rot inside her body. Do you have any idea what that’s like? She'll be a living corpse, a shell of a person. She won't feel anything including love. We as reapers, the undead, feel more than she ever will alive."

Leila swallowed the lump in her throat. "How do you know that?"

"Because I've seen what it does to a person," Edon said. "That little girl deserves better."

{Cover Reveal + Giveaway} GET EVEN by GRETCHEN MCNEIL

Get Even
by Gretchen McNeil
Series: Don't Get Mad #1
Genre: Young Adult Contemporary
Expected Publication September 16th by Balzer + Bray

Follows the secretive exploits of four high school juniors - Kitty, Olivia, Margot and Bree - at an exclusive Catholic prep school.

To all outward appearances, the girls barely know each other. At best, they don't move in the same social circles; at worst, they're overtly hostile.

Margot Mejia – academically ranked number two in her class, Margot is a focused overachiever bound for the Ivy League.

Kitty Li – captain of the California state and national champion varsity girls' volleyball team, she's been recruited by a dozen colleges and has dreams of winning an Olympic gold medal.

Olivia Hayes – popular star of the drama program, she's been voted "most eligible bachelorette" two years running in the high school yearbook and has an almost lethal combination of beauty and charm.

Bree Deringer – outcast, misfit and the kind of girl you don't want to meet in a dark alley, the stop sign red-haired punk is a constant thorn in the side of teachers and school administrators alike.

Different goals, different friends, different lives, but the girls share a secret no one would ever guess. They are members of Don't Get Mad, a society specializing in seeking revenge for fellow students who have been silently victimized by their peers. Each girl has her own reason for joining the group, her own set of demons to assuage by evening the score for someone else. And though school administration is desperate to find out who is behind the DGM "events", the girls have managed to keep their secret well hidden.

That is until one of their targets – a douchebag senior who took advantage of a drunk underclassman during a house party, videotaped it on his phone, and posted it on YouTube – turns up dead, and DGM is implicated in the murder.

Now the girls don't know who to trust, and as their tenuous alliance begins to crumble, the secrets they've hidden for so long might be their ultimate undoing.

(ARC) Review: THE SUMMER I FOUND YOU by Jolene Perry

The Summer I Found You
by Jolene Perry
Genre: Young Adult Contemporary Romance
Format Acquired: e-ARC
Source: NetGalley
Expected Publication March 1st 2014 by Albert Whitman Teen

All they have in common is that they're less than perfect. And all they're looking for is the perfect distraction.
Kate's dream boyfriend has just broken up with her and she's still reeling from her diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. Aidan planned on being a lifer in the army and went to Afghanistan straight out of high school. Now he's a disabled young veteran struggling to embrace his new life. When Kate and Aidan find each other neither one wants to get attached. But could they be right for each other after all?
MY REVIEW

"I used Grammarly's proofreading software because for every typo you correct, there's gonna be one less lonely word!"

(Thanks to Netgalley for providing me an e-ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review!)

This book brought butterflies in my stomach! Aidan and Kate were so sweet and they look so cute together! And actually, this is the first book I read with the guy, the hot, swoon worthy guy, having only one hand. Anyway, it doesn't really matter at all. Okay. It does matter, at some point. But with Aidan's features? You won't mind at all! You can imagine his lean, firm, muscular body with those dreamy abs since he came from the army. And here's Kate, freaking out about her diabetes like it's some kind of a cancer. I don't really get it why she takes it as a huge deal, but maybe, it really is. Especially when it came to the point that she 'almost' died because of it.

Their story didn't begin with the way other love stories do. It's like they used each other as some kind of distraction, taking them temporarily away from reality. Aidan, from his horrible experience that took his one arm, and Kate, who wants someone who won't have to check out her sugar level every time. Well, it kinda worked out, somehow. But this distraction, turned into attraction. They were attracted to each other without even knowing about it, and they don't want to admit it!

I have read some reviews giving it a low rating because of the grammar, use of punctuation, and the confusion between Aidan and Aiden. I didn't noticed these until I read some community reviews, because I was so hooked to the story. This pair made me blush all along! I'm so glad that Jen (Kate's bff and Aidan's cousin) tried to set them up. And I think Shelton is such a dumbass. I hate the way he broke up with Kate. Liar. Ugh!

The main reasons why I didn't give it a five-star rating is because: 1) The story didn't really happen during summer. I wonder why the title says so... 2) It's obvious the way they feel for each other but they never said the words. Yeah, I know actions speak louder than words, but... They just have to tell each other!

Overall, the story is great and I like the drama as well. So ladies, you might want to give this one a try. :)

It's obvious that I love reading, that's why I created this blog. So I can post my bookish rants endlessly. But there are times that I also take a break from reading, and I come to think of some other bookish things. I've been blogging for more than a year now, and in that short span of my blogging life, I learned a lot of things and met a lot of new friends. Some of them were bloggers like me, some were just into reading, and some of them were the lovely authors of the books I read! I know there's already a lot of discussion posts out there by other bloggers, but I just want to name my own. Some of my future posts might be discussed already, but who knows? There has to be (even a little) a difference between our points of view, right? So my bookish readers, I present to you, Tea-rrific Topics, hosted by yours truly, the tea-rrific reader, Algel.

So, basically, my Tea-rrific Posts will be about:

  • my book blogging issues
  • tips for readers and bloggers out there
For now, that will do the magic. It's not really final on what my topics will be so please watch out for my future posts!

Here's a glimpse of what my first post will be about:

{Cover Reveal} THE RIGHT MOVES by Emma Hart

The Right Moves
by Emma Hart
Series: The Game #3
Genre: New Adult Romance
Expected Publication March 7th 2014
Cover Reveal Organized by: The Book Lovers

Her past is wrought with demons.

His past is full of heartbreak.

Yet he’s the one person that can remind her what it means to live.
Abbi Jenkins never thought she would leave the walls of the mental institution that’s housed her for the last year. Now she has, but that doesn’t mean she’s forgotten everything Pearce put her through.

She knows there’s only one way to deal with the depression that claws at her mind each day, and ballet becomes more than a hobby, a dream. Ballet – and Julliard – becomes a reason to live. Something to hold on for.

Blake Smith left London for one reason and one reason only. Running from the heartbreak of his past was never something he wanted to do, but with constant reminders everywhere he turned, it became his only option. When he arrives in New York City, he vows he’ll keep the promise he made to his sister and get into Juilliard.
But he doesn’t expect to be paired with Abbi in class, the girl whose eyes show a world of pain he’s seen before. Pain he knows too well. As each hour they spend together pulls them closer, Blake can’t fight his need to save her from herself.

Lines blur as their pasts are wrenched into the open, and they have to ask themselves whether they’re too broken to ever to be fixed, or if they’re the healing the other needs.
EXCERPT (from Abbi's POV)

We always seem to be somewhere when it’s getting dark,” I comment absently, stepping from Blake’s hold and walking to the edge of the shelter. I look over the water, a few lone ducks still swimming along.

I see him shrug as he steps up beside me. He rests his elbows on the ledge and leans forward, his bicep brushing my arm.

Hiding in plain sight,” he says simply.

I blink harshly, suddenly glad for the darkening of the sky. Something I said so casually, like it meant nothing, and he’s remembered it. He’s remembered it and somehow he’s applied it to everything we’ve done so far. He’s letting me hide right where he can see me.

He seems to understand so much about me – about how I feel, how to deal with the crazy breakdowns that can happen any second. He doesn’t blink at them and nothing seems to faze him. It’s unnerving and reassuring at the same time.

It’s my favorite time of day,” I admit, twiddling my fingers. “Right now, when day is giving way to night. It’s the point I can drop the fake smile and stop pretending like everything is perfect. There are so many shadows and dark places I can barely recognize my own amongst them, and it’s a relief.”

You can’t pretend all the time.” He turns his face toward mine, and his eyes are so serious I have to fight not to look back at him. “Anyone who smiles the way you do can’t have a fake one all the time. Either that, or you’re an even better actress than you are a dancer and I don’t see how that’s possible.”

Maybe not all the time,” I say slowly and quietly. “I don’t always need to pretend. Sometimes it really is okay.”

Like when you dance.”

I tilt my head toward him, my eyes meeting his through my hair, and I whisper, “Like when I’m with you.”
