Meet Meda. She eats people.
Well, technically, she eats their soul. But she totally promises to only go for people who deserve it. She’s special. It’s not her fault she enjoys it. She can’t help being a bad guy. Besides, what else can she do? Her mother was killed and it’s not like there are any other “soul-eaters” around to show her how to be different. That is, until the three men in suits show up.
They can do what she can do. They’re like her. Meda might finally have a chance to figure out what she is. The problem? They kind of want to kill her. Before they get the chance Meda is rescued by crusaders, members of an elite group dedicated to wiping out Meda’s kind. This is her chance! Play along with the “good guys” and she’ll finally figure out what, exactly, her ‘kind’ is.
Be careful what you wish for. Playing capture the flag with her mortal enemies, babysitting a teenage boy with a hero complex, and trying to keep one step ahead of a too-clever girl are bad enough. But the Hunger is gaining on her.
The more she learns, the worse it gets. And when Meda uncovers a shocking secret about her mother, her past, and her destiny… she may finally give into it.

(One of the reasons I requested for an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley is that the cover fascinated me. It looks like blue fire... (and just because it falls within the shade of blue) So, yeah.)

Happy Halloween guys and hurray 'cause it's my birthday!!! And I chose to review Cracked for my 20th birthday!

Cracked is about a teenage girl named Meda, who is a half human and half demon. She has, of course, supernatural abilities like running really fast and jumping really high. When she gets angry, she eats human food. But when she's starving, she eats souls. Yes, that's right. Souls. Like rip it out of the living body.

Meda lost her mother a few years ago, due to a demon attack. She never met her father, so she ended up wandering among the streets and found herself in an asylum, where she eats the souls of those who come to her. That was until she was attacked by demons like her and she was saved by a guy named Chi. And this is where another chapter in her life began. They went to a school where the students were trained to kill demons like her. She wasn't recognized as a demon since she's a halfling, and she didn't tell them. She was covered up as the cousin of Jo,

During the first half of the book, I kinda thought that Meda was bad, selfish and self-centered. I thought she enjoyed killing people so she can eat their souls and satisfy her hunger. Then later on, she wanted everyone to focus on her and act as if she's the most important person, other than the kids at the school. But I was wrong. Yeah, sorry, Meda. She doesn't just kill random people. She kills bad people like criminals. And she helps lost souls. How? Read the book! Now!

Well, aside from Meda, my next favorite character would be Jo. She's such a badass Templar. I told you guys before that I love badass ladies. She's a tough one, even though she has a problem with one of her legs. She's strong. She never wanted to give up. Those were just some of the things I liked in her. And I kinda ship her and Chi. But I wish she won't be so cruel to him. I mean, they admitted their feelings for each other and then suddenly she's always mad and irritated to him. I guess it's true that the more you hate, the more you love. Hehehehe.

Meda's sarcasm added to awesomeness of this book. You'll never miss a single laugh once you read Meda's thoughts. This is a really good book and Crewe gave the story twists and turns that will make the readers hate, cry, and love. The last chapters of this book were my favorite parts and I can hardly wait for the next installment.

Eliza Crewe

Eliza Crewe always thought she’d be a lawyer, and even went so far as to complete law school. But as they say, you are what you eat, and considering the number of books Eliza has devoured since childhood, it was inevitable she’d end up in the literary world. She abandoned the lawyer-plan to instead become a librarian and now a writer.

While she’s been filling notebooks with random scenes for years, Eliza didn’t seriously commit to writing an entire novel until the spring of 2011, when she and her husband bought a house. With that house came a half-hour commute, during which Eliza decided she needed something to think about other than her road-rage. Is it any surprise she wrote a book about a blood-thirsty, people-eating monster?

Eliza has lived in Illinois, Edinburgh, and Las Vegas, and now lives in North Carolina with her husband, her hens, her angry, talking, stuffed dwarf giraffe, and a sweet, mute, pantomiming bear. She likes to partially-complete craft projects, free-range her hens, and take long walks. Cracked is her first novel.
